We seek a temporary, full-time Navigator to join Heartland Community College’s Workforce Empowerment Initiative (WEI), a grant-funded program supported by the Illinois Community College Board. The WEI grant supports programming for un/underemployed adults by providing training and credentials in high-impact academic areas, along with specialized support services and job placement assistance. The Navigator's primary focus is to coordinate student recruitment and retention efforts, working collaboratively with external social service agencies and various departments across the College.
General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting WEI program outreach, recruitment, and enrollment.
- Maintain professional relationships with local social service providers and support networks who refer students to the WEI program. In turn, connect students to community supports in an effort to overcome barriers to success in the program.
- Conduct WEI intake interviews and determine program eligibility.
- Support student persistence initiatives by helping students address barriers to success, such as securing childcare and transportation assistance.
- Follow up with select program completers to maintain employment and wage data.
- Document communications with students in the College’s student retention software.
Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Proven commitment to and understanding of the special needs of students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, attention to detail, ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to function professionally under pressure.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

EMPLOYEE LEAVE
Vacation: 20 days (160 hours) per year with a maximum annual carry-over of 40 days (320 hours); Accrual of 6.16 hours will be granted on the last day of each pay period
Sick Leave: 12 days (96 hours) per year with unlimited annual carry-over; 12 days (96 hours) granted on start date; Beginning on the first anniversary, accrual of 3.70 hours will be granted on the last day of each pay period.Volunteer Leave: 1 day (8 hours) per year with no annual carry-over;
Health Savings Account:Tax-advantaged account available to QHDHP participants only to pay for qualified healthcare expenses. The College provides monthly contributions for eligible employees: $50 for single coverage, $100 for employee +1 coverage, $200 for family coverage
8 hours granted on start date, then annually granted on January 1
Special Leave: Available by approval for bereavement, emergencies, and legal requirements
Parental Leave: 4 weeks for qualifying events, once per 12-month rolling period
Holidays: 12 designated paid holidays, plus 3 paid Floating Holidays (24 hours); Floating Holidays granted on start date, then annually granted on the anniversary date. HCC is closed from Christmas Eve Day through New Year’s Day generally resulting in additional paid days
