Job Description


This is a 30 hour per week benefit earning, part-time position. The starting salary for this position is $36,745 to $43,228 depending on qualifications; full salary range is $36,745 to $58,433.

This position is responsible for planning and executing Museum events and helping coordinate fundraising activities including committee-driven events, donor/sponsor communications, and donor database management. The focus of this work is to support the efforts of the Children’s Discovery Museum with additional support for other events housed in the Cultural Arts Department as directed by the Executive Director. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Development.

Duties/Essential Job Functions


- Plans Museum and community events including Day of Play, Jammies & Jingles, Halloween Hoopla, and Noon Year’s Eve.
- Assists the Executive Director and Development Director with all aspects of fundraising including but not limited to sponsorships, individual/member giving, foundation support, donor and board relations, reports, and fundraising event planning.
- Coordinates event committees for special events; assisting with planning, budgets, execution, post-event reports, and wrap up.
- Works with the marketing team to create collateral for events such as program booklets, flyers, and posters.
- Serves as a liaison between event committees and Cultural Arts staff to share staffing needs for events.
- Coordinates with the Director of Experiences and Engagement to secure volunteers for events and specific efforts for enhanced/pop-up member/visitor/donor experiences.
- Responsible for donor data management including maintaining database accuracy and completeness and assists the Development Director with reports; Assists Development Director and the Director of Experiences and Engagement during data cleanup process.
- Assists the Development Director with basic gift entry, mailing lists, and acknowledgement reports.
- As requested, manages special donor projects of a highly confidential and sensitive nature.
- Assists with Cultural Arts events and sponsorships as directed by the Executive Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

- Must possess the skill to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters and to perform routine office management without supervision.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the general public and to deal positively and effectively with all individuals.
- Must have considerable knowledge of English, grammar and spelling.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Must have an understanding of donor confidentiality needs and demonstrate professional etiquette associated with confidential records.
- Must have considerable knowledge of modern office equipment and procedures, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be very organized with a strong ability to set priorities and make efficient use of time.
- Must have mathematical reasoning and be a critical thinker.
- Ability to work under time pressure.

Desirable Training and Experience

Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent, some experience in performing progressively responsible clerical work, supplemented by general business experience is preferred. Familiarity with event coordination and programming is required, or any other training and experience which provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job requirements. Experience with fundraising and nonprofit and/or museum work is desired.
