Duties/Essential Job Functions

Public Works Waste Division
- Assists in maintaining clean, sanitary conditions in the community by way of a waste or recycle collection route, including reporting any items not collected.
- Operates a large vehicle during frequent start-stop operations, safely and efficiently.
- Maintains a close daily schedule for refuse or recycle collection.
- Maintains up-to-date records kept within the Waste Removal Division, such as equipment maintenance, route information, refuse cart program requirements and so forth.
- Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment in a safe and efficient operating condition, including greasing and washing.
- Pick up residential waste.
- Pick up landscape waste.
- Operate roll off truck for recycling program.
- Strenuous physical/manual labor in all types of weather.
- A CDL license is preferred.
Public Works Streets Division
- Assists in maintaining safe streets, alleys, curbs and sidewalks through necessary repairs, snow and ice control, street sweeping, leaf removal, roadway stripping and street safety signing.
- Responsible for any of the street maintenance duties.
Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Illinois class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
- Ability to learn the operation and maintenance of all equipment and procedures within the division.
- Some knowledge of heavy duty trucks, tractors and maintenance equipment.
- Some knowledge of general construction.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and other Town employees.
- Physical ability to perform a wide variety of manual labor in a wide variety of inclement weather, especially as it relates to the back, legs and arms.
- Some skill in operating heavy duty trucks.
- Ability to maintain various records of the division
Desirable Training and Experience
-
Graduation from standard high school or equivalent, or a vocational school and some experience in manual labor and driving a commercial motor vehicle.
