Job Title: Commercial Painter I
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Manager/Director
General Summary:
The painter is responsible for performing all aspects of interior and exterior painting on residential, commercial, and industrial projects for Tentac Enterprises and its clients. This role focuses primarily on high-quality painting and finishing work, with drywall preparation and repair duties as needed. The ideal candidate demonstrates precision, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to maintaining company standards of workmanship, safety, and professionalism in both active construction and occupied environments.
Essential Job Functions:
- Must be able to, with minimal supervision, paint while maintaining the quality standards set by First Company.
- Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper and removing old paint.
- Responsible for mixing, matching, and applying paint to various surfaces and completing touchups.
- Making on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
- Fill cracks and holes with appropriate material (e.g. plaster)
- Measure, cut, and fit drywall panels according to project specifications.
- Secure drywall sheets to wall studs, ceiling joists, and other framing structures using screws, nails, or adhesives.
- Tape, mud, and sand joints to achieve a smooth, paint-ready finish.
- Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools
- Apply varnish and other finishes
- Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions
- All other tasks as assigned by supervisor not listed as essential functions.
- Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees.
- Position requires individuals to be able to use general maintenance equipment including, but not limited to, hand tools, ladders, landscaping equipment, and required safety equipment.
Qualification Standards
Communication:
Strong communication skills. The ability to deal effectively with vastly diverse groups of people.
Education:
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities may be considered sufficient.
Experience:
Required: Painting experience in apartments or commercially.
Preferred: Painting and some knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, general carpentry.
Licenses and Certifications:
Required: Valid driver’s license and insurance.
Grooming:
All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance including hair color.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to reach by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
- Ability to frequently walk and climb/descend stairs approximately 50% of the time.
- Ability to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, the use of small repair tools
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance and a maximum of 140 pounds with assistance
- Ability to periodically bend, kneel, crawl, and twist torso as needed to accomplish required tasks
- Ability to perform duties with extreme temperature and noise ranges
- Ability to see within normal parameters
- Ability to hear within a normal range
- Ability to move about
- Must have the physical ability to maintain balance, climb safely, and carry tools or materials while ensuring three points of contact at all times while using a ladder.
