Responsibilities

State Farm (Bloomington, IL) seeks a Software Engineer to develop and maintain software solutions for State Farm agents and associates. Specific duties include: work independently to design, develop, implement, test, and support products for business areas (creating new or modifying existing applications/tools to meet technical specifications or business needs); independently identify problems, related technical issues and the approach to long-term, repeatable solutions meeting customer/grantor needs; independently handle and resolve routine problems and moderately complex assignments with assistance and guidance for more complex issues; maintain and continue to develop breadth of knowledge in software engineering topics, including classes, functions, security, containers, version control, CI/CD, and unit tests; maintain and continue to develop breadth of knowledge in programming (e.g. Java, JavaScript), and database functionality (e.g. SQL, Non-SQL); maintain and continue to develop breadth of knowledge in compute environments, including but not limited to AWS and Salesforce; develop understanding of user experience best practices and test designs and standards; and demonstrate an understanding of the State Farm organizational structure. Must take and pass pre-hire coding test. Option to work remotely from anywhere in the United States with required travel to company headquarters in Bloomington, IL once a year.


Qualifications

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, or a closely related field of study, plus 1 year of experience in the job offered, or as a Programmer Analyst, or similar software development engineer or programmer position. Specific experience must include 1 year of experience with each of the following: Java, unit tests, and version control. Must take and pass pre-hire coding test. Option to work remotely from anywhere in the United States with required travel to company headquarters in Bloomington, IL once a year.
