Starting Salary is $53,901.25 - $84,800. Potential yealy incentive pay up to 15% of base salary. Salary offered is dependent on skills and qualifications, with the high end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience. Responsibilities
State Farm Law Department is seeking a Legal Operations Analyst to join their Legal Operations team. This position will assist Law Department Counsel by providing support of processes, procedures, reporting, analysis, and operational oversight of outside law firms retained by the Law Department. This is an opportunity to be a part of our Legal Operations team and interact with many areas across the enterprise. Strong collaboration, relationship building, customer focus, teamwork, and technical/functional skills are needed to be successful in this role.
Located at State Farm’s corporate headquarters in Bloomington, IL, this position is classified as a hybrid role, meaning that the work arrangement calls for hours in the office and virtually. Work arrangements could change over time based on business needs.
- Creates and implements operational processes related to the Law Department's short- and long-term planning; day-to-day operations; technology development, maintenance, deployment, and overall strategy; expense management, and process improvement
- Collaborates closely with the Legal Operations teams and across the Law Department to create, implement, and improve processes to help the department meet its goals and objectives
- Facilitates operational excellence through the delivery of innovative people, processes, and technology solutions
- Involvement in a variety of project work as assigned within the department. Examples include:
- Coordination of department-wide activities
- Organize department efforts and coordinate with internal business partners
- Assist department leadership with analysis and reporting on a broad array of business issues
- May perform business and/or financial analytical, technical, and research activities
- Collaborates with Legal Operations finance team to communicate, compile, and prepare information through summaries, reports, and presentations related to the management of retained counsel operations and expenses
- Interprets and applies department standards to information requests from internal and external customers on current issues facing the department
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Professional Experience is preferred:
- A paralegal degree, or a degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field, OR,
- 1-3 years of experience in the legal industry with a focus on expense management or legal operations
- Adaptability and ability to work in an evolving environment
- Strong organization, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, manage work, and drive results
- High degree of accountability to meet deadlines with limited direction and oversight
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with legal industry practices, including billing structures, legal contracts, and typical legal expenses
- Data Analysis/Reporting Tools: Proficiency in data analysis and/or reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power BI or Platform) for analyzing invoice and hourly rate datasets
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding expense tracking and reporting
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess data and provide actionable insights and drive results
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to collaborate across the department and enterprise
- Verbal and Written Communication: Excellent communication skills to present findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders, including legal teams and management
- Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with legal teams and external vendors
