Supervisory Responsibilities:
Position Objective: The CNC Press Brake Lead Operator role is a position focused on production setups for all machinery in our CNC department. The primary focus will be keeping up with daily tooling and program changes. It will be expected of the lead operator to develop familiarity and a functional understanding of the tooling provided which includes both punch & die as well as a variety of custom form tooling. The employee will be expected to fill in for the department supervisor on occasion. The employee will be expected to gather skills and knowledge from the supervisor that are specific and unique to the company.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Takes work direction from Fabrication Supervisor.
- Perform daily startup and shutdown of all machinery in CNC press brake department.
- Read and understand technical drawings; transfer print data to machine programming.
- Perform setup and programming of CNC press brakes and mechanical presses for other operators.
- Efficient, accurate and safe setups of both pre-existing and new parts.
- Performs routine quality checks of parts.
- Willingness to follow company methodology of product workflow.
- Perform additional tasks relating to the production schedule; fill in for operators if needed.
- Achieves or exceeds production goals.
- Self-manages tasks; willingness to help others without being asked; strives for improvement.
- Willingness to act on routine decisions and expect problem solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues; seeks assistance when needed.
- Documents and reports basic material, production, and quality control data.
- Perform daily inspections of machinery and tooling for quality and safety issues.
- Responsibly uses and maintains machinery, tooling, and a clean work environment.
- Participates in equipment preventative maintenance at the operator level; reports advanced issues to supervisor.
- Install and utilize necessary safety or operator-assist devices for the assigned job task.
- Correct use of personal protective equipment.
- Has the ability to react efficiently to abrupt changes in production schedules such as urgent items and prototype requests.
Marginal Responsibilities
- Keeps management informed on all issues pertaining to the CNC press brakes.
- Familiarize with other areas of fabrication; communicate to improve product flow.
- Works in other positions and departments, as cross-trained.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Strong preference for three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competency Requirements
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Basic fabrication knowledge.
- Strong working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes and manufacturing equipment.
- Functioning knowledge of CNC press brake set up, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Basic computer skills.
- Competency in basic shop math, including basic dimensional measuring and use of precision measurement tools.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift and pass written and operational test.
- Ability to work independently, and in a group environment.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints or other shop aids.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, and in a group environment.
- Experience with Amada machinery is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting, standing, and walking, up to 10 hours per day.
- Routine grasping and reaching.
- Frequent lifting of up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment
- Ability to work in a loud, fast paced industrial environment, near moving mechanical parts and occasional vibration of the equipment and workspace.
