Role Overview

As an Open Deck Fleet Planner, you’ll manage planning and profitability for approximately 30 drivers in our open deck division. You’ll work closely with the Open Deck Driver Manager and be responsible for sourcing brokered and spot market loads, optimizing fleet performance, and ensuring operational efficiency. Your ultimate goal? Maximize profitability while delivering an exceptional driver experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Fleet Planning & Coordination:
    • Develop daily and weekly plans for ~30 open deck drivers.
    • Optimize load assignments to reduce empty miles and improve utilization.
  • Load Finding
    • Source brokered and spot market loads to supplement customer freight.
    • Negotiate competitive rates and secure profitable opportunities.
  • Financial Responsibility:
    • Monitor and manage fleet profitability, including revenue, cost per mile, and margin targets.
    • Use financial data to make informed decisions and improve performance.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Partner with Open Deck Driver Manager to ensure driver satisfaction and compliance.
    • Maintain strong relationships with brokers and customers for consistent freight flow.
  • Problem Solving:
    • Address operational challenges quickly and effectively to maintain service standards.

Job Schedule

  • Full-time; Monday–Friday; 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Corporate Office – 19336 N 1425 East Rd., Hudson, IL 61748

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Experience or willingness to learn open deck operations, fleet planning, or logistics coordination
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze profitability metrics
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Outlook)
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced environment
