Job Summary

Career Ambassadors in Career Services are highly accomplished undergraduate student leaders at Illinois State University who provide services to engage and support their peers’ career preparation. Career Ambassadors (CAs) proudly and positively represent the Office of Career Services to students, employers, and other stakeholders.

Career Ambassadors are trained by Career Services staff members to effectively review and provide actionable feedback on résumés and cover letters for undergraduate students during drop-in appointments, and facilitate classroom presentations, equipping students with relevant strategies to enhance their career preparation according to the Career Readiness Competencies developed by the National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Career Ambassadors will need to demonstrate strong knowledge and implementation of excellent customer service while in this position. Career Ambassadors will work in a fast -paced & dynamic work environment while actively participating as a member of a team.

Career Ambassadors must maintain confidentiality of student information.

All Career Service Ambassadors (including returning ambassadors) must be available to complete the Career Ambassador Training during the week of August 13, 2026 – August 17, 2026.

Pay Rate

$15.25/hour

Required Qualifications

-Must be an active Illinois State University student in good academic and disciplinary standing at the time of the application and throughout employment
-Must be able to commit to the position for at least two consecutive semesters

Preferred Qualifications

-Successfully completed an internship or other formal work experience
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Experience in public speaking and delivering presentations
-Familiar with Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and similar office productivity tools
-Familiar with LinkedIn and developing a strong and professional social media presence
-High comfort level with interacting with people, delivering professional feedback, and word-of-mouth marketing
-Social Media marketing skills
-Familiarity with LinkedIn and other social media platforms

Work Hours

-Up to 15 hours per week between 8am - 6pm, Mon - Fri.
-Must be available to work up to 15 hours per week; extra hours required on occasion to support department events and presentations
-Must be available to work during some evenings and weekend hours

Important Information for Applicants

This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and if applicable, an employment history review, based on University Policy 3.1.30 and any offer of employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation and/or an employment history review. In addition, all appointments are contingent upon proof of eligibility for employment at Illinois State University to perform the required duties described above on your scheduled start date. This may be accomplished within the department or through Human Resources. Illinois State University, as your employer, is required by federal law to ensure proper tax withholding from wages and to ensure that the required reporting of employee wages, withholding, and employment taxes is accurate. For this reason, every employee must have a valid Social Security Number registered with the University at the time of employment and/or as soon after as possible, but no later than 45 days from the start date. Failure to comply with this law may result in cancellation of your appointment.

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held.

International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work more when the university is not in session. International students should contact the Office of International Studies and Programs for guidance if they have questions concerning employment restrictions.
