Job Summary

The A+ project is seeking Extra Help to create visual aids to support coaches for the A+ grant in meeting grant deliverables.

  • Create visual supports such as schedules, task cards, charts, behavior/communication visuals, and classroom organizational support.
  • Collaborate with grant staff to develop visual supports aligned with the identified needs of classrooms
  • Modify and adapt visual supports to meet individual student needs
  • Maintain an organized inventory of visual supports by laminating, cutting, and preparing items as needed.
  • Gather visuals and prepare conference materials for exhibiting
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervising staff.

Additional Information

The Autism Professional Learning and Universal Supports (A+) project at Illinois State University plays a vital role in addressing the significant behavior needs of children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related behavior and communication disorders, in collaboration with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). As the number of children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder continues to increase, so does the need for specially trained staff. To ensure their success in the educational setting, learners with ASD require specific strategies and supports. Equally important, school teams supporting these students must possess the knowledge and skills to provide effective interventions. Professional learning is an integral component of the technical assistance A+ provides to educators across Illinois.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$18.00 per hour

Required Qualifications

  1. Advanced technology skills to create visual supports (e.g., Adobe, Canva, Boardmaker, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace).
  2. Ability to work collaboratively with grant staff.
  3. Patience, flexibility, and communication skills

Special Instructions for Applicants

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University’s supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.

Please fully complete the entire application including, but not limited to, the education and work history portions. Be specific on your work history, including employment dates (if part-time you must list the number of work hours) and duties for all positions held. Applicable part-time work experience will be considered toward qualifying for this position; however, it will be converted to a full-time equivalency to determine combined length of experience. Please do not put "see resume" in the duties and responsibilities section of the work history. This will be considered an incomplete application and incomplete applications will not be considered.
