About the role
Directs the planning and execution of national legislative programs for the Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB). Serves as a legislative liaison and negotiates legislation/regulations at the federal level. Supervises assigned staff.How does this role make an impact?
• Fosters strategic alliances and positive relationships with various external entities to advocate on regulatory issues, coordinate programs and strategies, and advance IFB legislative priorities. May represent IFB on various boards, committees and/or groups throughout the state, as assigned. • Initiates and maintains relationships with members of the Illinois Congressional delegation, U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committees, U.S. Senate Agriculture Committees and their staff. Executes legislative liaison activities for the IAA regarding national legislative issues in the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, U.S. Executive Branch and with federal agencies. • Develops national legislative priority public position statements on legislation/regulations and strategic plans for implementation. Delivers state and national press interviews on policy positions, manages issues and responds to external requests for information. • Directs the planning and execution of IFB Leaders to Washington, IFB Managers to Washington, IAA Board to Washington, and statewide FBACT programs aimed at increasing IFB member involvement in legislative issues. • Manages all activities of the Illinois Agricultural Legislative Roundtable. • Collaborates with internal contacts to develop IFB positions, review and monitor the progress of proposed legislation, and effectively communicate key policies or issues within assigned area of responsibility. • Serves as a member of the Governmental Affairs and Commodities leadership team, participating in the study, reporting, decision-making, budgeting, and planning activities of the Division. • Performs research, prepares reports, and provides information and counsel to the Board of Directors, relevant committees and other entities, as requested. Serves on committees as designated. • Provides supervisory leadership for assigned staff, including employment, training, supervision, support and ongoing performance feedback. • Exercises professional leadership by keeping abreast of current trends, issues, developments, technology and opportunities within field of responsibility.Do you have what we're looking for?
Typically requires 12+ years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training, including management experience.
- Normal office environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed, including frequent long workdays.
- Extensive travel required, including out-of-state, overnight and air travel.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
- Extensive knowledge of current national political and agricultural trends and issues.
- Understanding of federal lobbying laws and regulations
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including strong public speaking, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, including strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to develop and motivate others, resolve conflict, delegate effectively and lead change.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, organize efficiently, establish priorities and attend to details.
- Computer proficiency with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Base Pay Range:
$149,200-$205,150The base pay range represents the typical range of potential salary offers for candidates hired. Factors used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, qualifications and experience.
Incentive Pay:
In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a Short-Term Incentive plan.
