About the role

This intern assists the development and implementation of outreach and educational programs and events for Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) that engage members and prospective members to provide them with opportunities and experiences that increase their exposure to and/or build their leadership skills within Farm Bureau and/or the agriculture field.

· Oversees development and implementation of engagement activities for prospective, new and existing members, including youth and non-farm audiences.
· Serves as a resource to county Farm Bureaus as they create their own programs and activities.
· Fosters positive relationships and collaborates with other organizations involved in agricultural consumer engagement and literacy.
· Manages the Illinois Farm Family (IFF) effort on behalf of participating organizations, including implementation of programs and activities. Reports project progress to IFB committees and Board, as requested.
· Leads the effort to build and maintain a network of farmers to serve as the core volunteer spokespeople for non-farm events, programs, and activities.
· Collaborates with leadership on IFB’s communications strategy and ensuring print and digital content help advance organizational priorities. Coordinates IFB and IFF brand and messaging to ensure consistent use.
· Assists in developing and managing departmental budget.
· Exercises professional leadership by keeping abreast of current trends, developments and opportunities within field of responsibility.
· Provides supervisory leadership for assigned staff, including employment, training, supervision, support and ongoing performance feedback.

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Pursuing a degree in Ag Communication, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Must be able to work full-time hours from late May 2026 to early August 2026.
  • Graduation date of August 2026 or beyond.
  • Proficiency in programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Familiar with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Understanding of Illinois agriculture and modern farming practices.
  • Formal agricultural/farm background a plus.
  • Event planning a plus.

Base Pay Range:

$72,800-$100,100

The base pay range represents the typical range of potential salary offers for candidates hired. Factors used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, qualifications and experience.

Incentive Pay:

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a Short-Term Incentive plan.
