As the Associate Director of Local Government and Political Engagement, you'll be part of a team that develops and implements local government programs with a focus on relationship building at the local level. You'll also take the lead in coaching our county Farm Bureau leaders, staff and members on political engagement and local government processes. You will address key local legislative and regulatory issues and develop programs that involve our members in the political process. As a member of the local government team, you’ll also work with the department on member and leadership outreach and education on many different issues impacting at the local level.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule and is based out of our corporate offices in Bloomington, IL.

How does an Associate Director of Local Government and Political Engagement make an impact?

  • Represents IFB throughout the state regarding local regulatory and policy issues. Fosters positive relationships with local officials, CFBs, members and others to accomplish IFB policy and local goals.
  • Works with CFBs to develop key policy issues within the county. Provides guidance on local policy development; setting, implementing and communicating priorities; and developing strategy.
  • Develops messaging on local regulatory and policy issues for various audiences.
  • Engages CFB staff and leadership in the political process by encouraging local volunteer efforts and advocacy on regulatory and policy issues.
  • Exercises professional leadership by keeping abreast of current issues, trends, developments and opportunities within field of responsibility.
  • Performs research, prepares reports and provides information and counsel to the IAA Board of Directors, relevant committees and other entities, as requested.

Qualifications

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Strong knowledge of local government structure, duties and responsibilities.
  • Experience in coalition and relationship building with local officials, trade associations and organizations.
  • Ability and willingness to advise Farm Bureau members on local political engagement and governmental processes.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including robust writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience serving as a local elected or appointed official.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Regular travel, including some air travel and overnight trips.
  • Typically requires 7 years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training.
