A Brief Overview

The Human Resources Manager leads and oversees the development, implementation, and administration of benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Manages benefit functions to ensure health and welfare programs and initiatives remain competitive and comply with federal, state, local and government reporting regulations. Responsible for advising managers regarding employee relations situations, and ensuring that workplace concerns are handled effectively, ethically, and consistently.

What you will do

  • Identify and ensure that legal requirements and government reporting related to benefits are in compliance with federal and state agencies and banking regulations to minimize the risk for the department.
  • Oversee the management of employee benefits administration between employees and our benefits providers. Maintain the employee benefits module within the HRIS system. Work with insurance broker to analyze monthly reports, trends and coordinate team discussions related to annual renewal for open enrollment. Supervise the review and submission of monthly invoices in a timely manner.
  • Perform benefits structural analysis to ensure market competitiveness, cost effectiveness and program design are providing a high value to the Heartland Bank and Trust employees.
  • Manage and provides guidance regarding ADA and FMLA compliance and other leave administration.
  • Serve as a resource for managers in addressing employee performance issues through coaching, counseling, and corrective action process. Engage appropriate parties, including legal counsel, as necessary to resolve complex problems in an honest, fair and equitable manner that reflects positively on the Bank including investigations and terminations. Represent the Bank at employment related hearings.
  • Provide advice on organizational policies, procedures, and best practices to managers and employees.
  • Oversee all aspects of the employee recognition programs, engagement initiatives and communication to further increase employee engagement, satisfaction and retention.
  • Develop and conduct employee and manager training related to organizational policy matters and benefits.
  • Prepare and recommend staff communication, newsletter articles and HR-related policies and procedures.

Other Qualifications/Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
  • Relevant experience in human resources, especially in employee or labor relations.
  • Experience in conducting workplace investigations and resolving conflicts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Human Resources and minimum 7 years of human resources, employee relations, benefits preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • PHR, SPHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
