Position Summary

The Packing Line operator tends machines that perform one or more packaging functions such as filling, marking, labeling, banding, and weighing containers by performing the following duties:

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains safe environment and a clean and orderly workplace per 3S standards.
  • Responsible for performing regular quality checks as per SOP.
  • Identify and resolve minor mechanical and quality problems.
  • Works with Maintenance to resolve major mechanical and quality problems.
  • Starts machine and observes operation to detect malfunctions of machine.
  • Makes minor adjustments or repairs such as changing labels, strapping material and sealing with glue, setting guides, or clearing away damaged product containers.
  • Observes packaging operations and inspects filled boxes to ensure that product is packaged according to specifications.
  • Feeds product to conveyors, hoppers, or other feeding devices, and unloads packaged product.
  • Replenishes packaging supplies such as boxes, cartons, and tape.
  • Mounts or places supplies in hopper or other feeding devices.
  • Tallies number of units of product packaged or records information such as size, quantity, and type of products packaged.
  • Must know ball types, packaging specifications, material types and locations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near heated equipment, moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to sharp objects, pinch points, and/or vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Steel/Composite toed shoes, heat resistant gloves, eye and ear protection is company provided (within reason) and always worn in this area. The indoor temperature is not a climate-controlled environment and can be seasonably hot or cold depending on the weather temperatures outside.

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a high school degree; or 1-2 year vocational training / associates degree
