Our Director - National Auto Product at COUNTRY Financial is accountable for product premium volume growth and profitability results within assigned state(s) or assigned line(s) of business. Geographic area depends on population size and market/regulation characteristics. Manages relationship of every aspect of assigned product through interaction with relevant departments, such as Claims, Underwriting, Sales/Marketing, Customer Service, and outside contracts (agents, regulators and industry groups). Develops action plans and strategic direction for functional areas and maintains alignment with product managers to ensure successful development of the entire product line. Ensures regulatory compliance by researching and maintaining awareness of existing state and federal statutes, as well as new legislation; includes state filings, licensing, consumer complaint resolution, assessments, etc. Provides guidance to regional product managers and actuarial analysts to further their professional development by serving as a consultant on matters related to product management. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Files changes with the department of insurance anticipating potential questions from the department and providing adequate information with the initial filing.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule and is based out of our corporate offices in Bloomington, IL.

How does a Director - National Auto Product make an impact?

  • Drives the successful development of new products and the effective management and enhancement of existing products by making recommendations regarding product design, pricing, underwriting, agency management, distribution, claims and other processes.
  • Ensures overall goals for production and underwriting profitability are met by analyzing premium rates, loss experience and retention.
  • In conjunction with marketing, develops state or lines of business profit and growth strategies and translates business ideas and market opportunities into new product ideas by researching and maintaining awareness of all major competitors' current market positions (i.e., rates, service levels, financial positions and operating strategies), business directions, financial dynamics, and new technologies.
  • Communicates and coordinates key profit metrics by coordinating with the Information Technology (IT) department to ensure proper implementation of rate revisions, new products, new product features, and other initiatives; develops working relationships with Accounting, Actuarial, Claims, Customer Service and IT.
  • Provides leadership by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages the implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and activities in assigned areas. Maintains current contact information for all employees in applicable areas and communicates with non-recovery employees during a disaster.

  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth organizational knowledge. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people. Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
  • Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional, division, or company operations.
  • Regularly interacts with executives and/or major clients, frequently requiring special skills, such as negotiating with or influencing senior-level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
  • Ensures effective achievement of objectives and sets operational strategy within respective business area. Develops methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs and employees.
  • This is an executive leadership role, which typically requires 12+ years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training, including management experience.
