Job Description:
As a Transportation Supervisor at Connect Transit you will provide supervision of and support to all vehicle Operators to ensure safe and reliable services that are customer focused to the Bloomington-Normal community. You will provide assistance to customers, first responders, and community partners as it relates to transit services.
Wages:
$50,000 – $60,000 annually, dependent on qualifications.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform responsibilities and duties as listed below during varying hours based on shifts selected by seniority; may include early mornings, late nights, and/or weekends.
- Participate in the hiring process for Operators.
- Participate in the development and administration of Transportation Department policies and procedures.
- Respond to safety-related incidents or accidents, report the cause and corrective action as needed.
- Ensure the duties of Operators are performed in accordance with Connect Transit policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Perform on-road observations, including safe practices, company provided procedures, and customer service expectations. If needed, determine how to best address violations through counseling, recommending training, or progressive discipline.
- Provide counseling, and issue verbal and written reprimands, recommend disciplinary suspensions or discharges to the Transportation Manager when deemed appropriate.
- Follow up and verify all service complaints to ensure compliance with Transportation Department standard operating procedures.
- Oversee and assist with the cash farebox revenue removal, separation, and counting.
- Review and track all leave requests from Operators.
- Participate in community outreach events and presentations as needed.
- Attend meetings to represent and promote the interests of the transit system as directed.
- Fill in for the Scheduler in a back-up capacity by creating and posting the daily schedules for Operators.

Job Requirements:
- Minimum three years of experience in transit system operations, and/or supervisory experience.
- Minimum Associate’s degree (or equivalent education and experience combination).
- Valid Illinois Driver's License with the ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements or the ability to obtain Air Brake and Passenger endorsements.
- Acceptable driving record (No serious traffic or license violations within the last five years).
- Successful completion of a federal background check and pre-employment drug test.
- Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of effective supervision and management of personnel.
- Ability to:
- Learn applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations governing bus operations, and labor and employment laws relating to the collective bargaining process.
- Learn regulations regarding safe practices, company procedures and government regulations regarding safety.
- Learn regulations regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Proficiently use Microsoft Office applications and communication equipment.
- Use two-way radio equipment.
- Maintain excellent attendance.
- Learn and utilize transit related software and hardware systems.
- Effectively lead, supervise and develop staff.
- Independently evaluate work performance; motivate personnel; and encourage the modification of behavior and performance when deemed necessary.
- Operate calmly in high stress situations, including dealing with conflict.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other transit system departments, collective bargaining unit members, outside contractors, vendors, and other government agencies.
- Lead a team to meet the objectives and benchmarks of the transit system.
- Learn and understand the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Apply laws, policies, and collectively bargained rules to daily operations.
- Conduct research and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Communicate effectively, both written and oral.
- Perform job duties indoors, outdoors, on the road, and in inclement weather conditions.
- Meet the physical strength, agility, and dexterity requirements to perform the work of this position.
