Job Description:

As the Technology Support Specialist for Connect Transit you will be primarily responsible for implementation and management of technology onboard our fleet vehicles to ensure safe operations and quality customer service to the Bloomington-Normal community.

Wages: $19.23 – $24.03, dependent on qualifications.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain transit fleet Computer Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location, camera systems, fare collection equipment, Radio Frequency radios and equipment, destination signs, Automated Passenger Counter systems, wayfinding/kiosk digital customer signage, and other technology equipment.
  • Work closely with Maintenance Department staff to facilitate coordination of repair of onboard equipment.
  • Assist in procurement, testing, training, and implementation of new onboard vehicle technologies.
  • Develop and perform preventative maintenance on existing vehicle technology systems.
  • Maintain working relationships with vendors to identify and solve problems with hardware and software systems while ensuring the IT Manager is aware of upcoming software and security upgrades that may impact service or user experience.
  • Responsible for provisioning, deprovisioning, and disposal of devices.
  • Organize, inventory, and track device deployment and inventory.
  • Perform technical support, training, and problem resolution for onboard technologies, including training Bus Operators, Maintenance staff, and other device users.
  • Perform updates, upgrades, and patching on mobile technology to meet security standards and requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in the mobile technology field.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend the use of new applications/technology and equipment at the direction of the IT Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum three years of experience in Information Technology or hardware engineering related field.
  • Minimum associate's degree (or equivalent education and experience combination).
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License
  • Pass federal background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of and skill in supporting Apple iOS and Google Android based devices and app ecosystems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and other Operating Systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Understanding of basic network concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routers.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Tech+ certification highly desirable.
  • Ability to:
    • Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain accurate records of incidents and resolutions.
    • Troubleshoot and solve complex problems and apply that to other problems.
    • Conduct research and prepare comprehensive reports.
    • Communicate effectively, both written and oral.
    • Work independently yet take verbal and written direction.
    • Easily establish relationships with employees and outside partners.
    • Interact professionally with various levels of Connect Transit employees and outside representatives.
    • Perform job indoors, outdoors, on the road, and in inclement weather conditions.
    • Meet the physical strength, agility, and dexterity requirements to perform the work of this position.
