Job Description:

As a Connect Transit Mechanic you will help repair and maintain our fleet of 60+ vehicles, which includes electric, diesel, and gasoline medium and heavy-duty buses, mini-buses, vans, and cars, to ensure a reliable fleet for our customers while we transport them safely on our prescheduled routes.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform work functions in accordance with safe practices, company procedures, and government regulations
  • Inspect vehicles, perform maintenance and/or diagnose, repair as needed
  • Inspect company owned equipment, perform maintenance and/or diagnose, repair as needed
  • Respond to road calls; perform maintenance, repairs, or bus switch out as needed
  • Perform routine daily opening or closing procedures
  • Respond to radio calls
  • Communicate fleet needs to Supervisors or Foreman
  • Assist other Mechanics as needed
  • Perform tire maintenance, including rotation and replacements
  • Complete maintenance paperwork and service records on computer
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Complete required yearly trainings (Diversity/Inclusion in the Workplace, Equal Opportunity, etc.)

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements (we will train you and pay for the license)
  • Acceptable driving record (No serious traffic or license violations within the last five years)
  • Pass background check
  • Pass Department of Transportation Physical and pre-employment drug test, and willingness to comply with federal drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • 1 year experience with automotive or diesel engines; or equivalent experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently or as part of a team to accomplish the assigned task.
    • Take verbal and written direction.
    • Work when needed, including nights, weekends, early mornings.
    • Provide your own tools.
    • Operate a forklift (we will train you and certify you on the job).
    • Use a computer for basic resources, parts research, and documentation of work.
    • Work in varying weather conditions, including outdoors during winter.
    • Occasionally lift/move 75-100 pounds.
    • Stand for long periods of time.
