Overview
Responsibilities
-Reviews the patient's EMR prior to performing testing. Reviews previous studies performed, physician order and reason for the study to be performed.
-Utilizes assessment skills in assessing the patient prior to performing the study, during the study and post procedure.
-Provides thorough instructions for patient and demonstrates breathing maneuvers to obtain optimal results. Answers questions, explains the testing process and coaches the patient throughout the test to obtain quality and reliable findings for interpretation.
-Processes PFTs in accordance with established standards. Prepares data for interpretation and gives to physician for interpretation.
-Possesses the ability to interpret flow volume loops and test values, identifying critical values. Communicates with the pulmonologist PFT findings discussing any questions pertinent to each patient study as required.
-Documents accurately in the patient's EMR, making clinical note if indicated. Reviews and proofreads the dictated report for accuracy and enters charges based on findings into the patient's EMR. Sends report to the interpreting pulmonologist for signature and on to referring physician if indicated.
-Greets and personally directs patient to examination room, tagging and rooming the patient into the EMR system. Explains to patient what he/she is to expect with the visit.
-Obtains patient vitals signs i.e. temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, SaO2; measures height and weight routinely for all patients and neck circumference when applicable. Documents all findings accurately into the patient's EMR.
-Reviews all test results ordered by the physician, recognizing abnormal/critical values/results and clinical data to review with the physician in a timely and appropriate manner. Posts tests and examination results the accurately in the patient's EMR.
-Documents all patient and family encounters in the patient's EMR.
-Maintain positive “guest relations” and telephone etiquette following prescribed departmental policies and procedures.
-Performs routine calibration of PFT and spirometry equipment per protocol and documents.
-Possesses understanding and working knowledge of equipment with the ability to troubleshoot. Notifies service of any issues or malfunctioning of equipment keeping Director of Operations informed.
-Performs all cleaning of equipment according to established guidelines and regulations.
Performs pulmonary function testing Prepares test reports and patient for the follow-up appointments with the provider. Confers with patient in treatment room to explain test procedures Ensures proper functioning of medical equipment. Prepare methacholine solutions for MCC tests
