Litigation Subrogation Specialist II

The Subrogation Specialist II is primarily responsible for the recovery of subrogation claims from insurance carriers and self-insured entities including uninsured tortfeasors. These claims can be carrier to carrier, consumer, uninsured, or medical/PIP claims. Responsibilities include working with clients, insured, claimants, and others, appropriately documenting information to achieve recovery of these subrogation claims. Cases are managed in accordance with state regulations and prescribed recovery best practices.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The Subrogation Specialist II may perform some or all the duties listed below:

  • Review files using a diary system to handle correspondence.
  • Identify the difference between medical damages and property damages to recognize the time limits of state specific statute regulations.
  • Prepare and review the initial content of each file while documenting and tracking all ongoing verbal and written correspondence in the AS400 system as well as applicable client systems.
  • Research the application of laws and statutes as it applies to specific claims in each state.
  • Communicate effectively with insured, claimants, attorneys, and client to obtain and or provide necessary information.
  • Determine appropriate claim amounts and review of subrogation claim for Litigation.

Litigation specific responsibilities:

  • Review files for adequacy of investigation and measure of damages prior to sending to National Attorney network for handling.
  • Act as a liaison between the client and attorneys.
  • Utilize available resources and maintain a basic understanding of applicable laws in each state.
  • Review and process legal expenses and recommend payment or make appropriate adjustments.

Working Conditions and Environment:

Incumbent works in a temperature-controlled office environment. Incumbent sits at a desk during regularly scheduled work hours; answers and makes telephone calls using a standard telephone; types on a standard keyboard; reads and comprehends information from a computer terminal and/or written resources.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • High school diploma or GED. Some college coursework preferred
  • Three to five years of proven subrogation or claims experience that includes substantial exposure to carrier to carrier claims is preferred
  • Ability to type 30 WPM with 85% accuracy
  • General knowledge of court filing, responding and counter claiming is expected.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products
  • Must possess above average oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong analyzing and negotiating techniques
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task with attention to detail
  • Responds to internal and external requests in a timely manner and works to deliver quality service
  • Seeks clarification for unclear or missing information
  • Demonstrated reasoning and problem solving abilities.
